How to Keep Your House Livable During a Renovation Project

You may be a bit nervous about trying to keep your space livable while changing up your home. Here at Meridian Construction, our goal is to provide our customers with realistic solutions for livable remodeling so they can be safe and comfortable throughout the project. Following these renovation tips can help you keep your household functional when completing your dream home renovation project from beginning to end.

Designate Work, Live, and Play Areas

The amount of livable space in your home will decrease during your renovation, so it’s important to maintain some livable spaces that meet your family’s needs.

Create Bathroom and Kitchen Strategies

Kitchen:

  • Have a temporary sink installed outside of the work area.
  • Relocate your small appliances such as a microwave or toaster.
  • Purchase meals that can be made with small appliances.

Bathroom:

  • Since this room is vital for daily living, it is important to time appliance removal and replacement correctly.
  • Reach out to a friendly neighbor or close loved one for temporary daily use.

Regardless of the size or scope of your remodel, we will do everything we can to make it as stress-free as possible and to maintain your high standards for superior indoor air quality. Preventative measures include:

  • Zip walls
  • Air cleaning
  • Duct sealing
  • Attention to detail
  • Safety
  • Enhanced communication

Project Spotlight: Seamless Flow

Bright and open, this kitchen offers a seamless flow, making the room not only visually beautiful, but functional, convenient, and efficient.

A wall was removed between the family room and kitchen to open up the space, and custom cabinets surrounding an over-sized island make for the perfect gathering spot. The finishing touch is a dry bar with a built-in wine refrigerator and glass rack.

The transitional style finishes include unique sconces above the large sink, navy blue island cabinetry, and a trendy herringbone backsplash.

Design Feature:
Everything Islands

When designing your new kitchen island, you’ll want to consider how it will be used. The style of your island will also depend on your unique space and style. The bigger the area, the more impressive your island can be. It can also serve as a distinct division between the kitchen and adjacent rooms.

If you have the room, an oversized kitchen island will offer multifunctional space. With an oversized island, you’ll never need to worry about counter space, and there will be ample room for eat-in kitchen seating, too.

For kitchens that lack width, a long, rather than wide, island can still make an impact. With length, you can have one section dedicated to usable counter space with the other end designated for seating.

Think of your island as an accent piece, complementing the room. Make it pop by choosing a contrasting color for the cabinetry beneath. And to ensure family-friendliness, quartz countertops are a superior option, with its non-porous, durable, and scratch-resistant surfaces.

Your kitchen island must be more than an eye-catching centerpiece, it must also be functional and practical, from meal prep to storage to a place to sit and eat or catch up on some school and office work.
