I Want to Remodel My Kitchen—Where Do I Start?
So, you’ve decided to remodel your kitchen—congratulations! Making the decision is the first step to creating your dream culinary space. However, once you’re ready for a consultation, there are a series of steps to take to get your project off the ground.
Don’t worry about every little detail—Meridian Construction is here to help. Bring us all your brightest ideas for your kitchen and we will turn them into reality with our proven design-build process.
Here are some steps to take for your kitchen remodel that we have compiled from our years of experience remodeling kitchens throughout Lansdale and the surrounding area.
Ask Yourself What’s Missing
If you decide to remodel your kitchen, chances are, there are at least a few elements you feel it’s missing. Take note of these and bring them to us, your design-build specialist. Do you want more counter space? A pantry? Maybe you need a custom drawer set-up for your kids. Whatever it is, bring it to us and we will make it happen. We want your kitchen to be both functional and well-suited to your personal style.
Look for Inspiration
Even if you already have a few ideas for your kitchen model, you might not know exactly what you want. So, take a look around for inspiration! Stock up on remodeling magazines and look through Houzz to find styles, designs, and features you might like to include in your remodel. The more examples you bring us, the better we will be able to capture your vision, so don’t be afraid to have a laundry list of ideas!
Our Kitchen Remodeling Process
Deciding to remodel your kitchen is a big step, and the actual remodel can seem intimidating and overwhelming. At Meridian, we work to make it easier and low-stress with our proven process. And you’re working with one team from design through completion—so you know you won’t be left hanging.
The remodeling process starts with YOU: your goals, wants, needs, style, budget, and beyond. We want to get to know your family and understand your needs. As your kitchen remodeling and design/build team, our primary job during the consultation is to listen.
We would like to learn more about your project and ask you some questions to find out how we can help you. There is no obligation or expectation at this meeting. It is just an opportunity for all of us to decide if you can benefit from working with Meridian. If you decide that you would like us to help you, we can review our design development agreement and discuss next steps. If you decide that we are not the best fit, that is completely fine. We will at least try to provide you with some valuable information during our discussion.

The first step of design is a project space measure. We will take measurements and photographs to evaluate the existing conditions of your kitchen. Once the initial project space measure is complete, we use this information to determine what work will need to be done to address your wants and needs. Our designers get to work creating a detailed kitchen remodeling plan. This includes a write-up of the project overview, budget estimates, and a working design. We use computer-aided design (CAD) to produce a three-dimensional rendering so you can experience the real feel of your new kitchen, as well as virtual reality apps that allow you to “walk through” the new space.
The plans are discussed, revised, and re-worked over a series of meetings until you are satisfied with the outcome. As our goal is for you to be comfortable and confident before construction, we never rush the design process.

Once you approve of the design for the kitchen remodel, it’s time to begin preparation for construction. A very detailed scope and relevant drawings are reviewed and signed together. This includes the expected start and completion date, so you know up front when your brand-new kitchen will be finished.
Leading up to your expected start date, we will have a series of meetings to finalize material selections (such as cabinet style/finish, hardware, plumbing fixtures, etc.). We order special-order materials and submit all permit applications on your behalf.

Before construction begins, we meet to discuss the rules of your home, so we make sure we respect your space. Once everyone is on the same page, we will seal off the work area and begin. You can expect frequent communication with weekly meetings, updates, and answers to any questions you may have throughout the kitchen remodeling process.
In addition to our emails and office number, you’ll have the owner’s cell phone number, so you can reach us literally 24/7.
Once construction is complete, we will collaborate with you to create a “finish list” to touch on anything you think may be missing from your kitchen remodeling project. After you approve your new kitchen, our team will begin the closing procedures and final inspections.
Finally, your project developer will walk through your finished remodel with you. He/she will ask questions to make sure you are completely satisfied, and you will receive a binder containing all of your product warranties, manuals, and material selections.
